Richardi Reservoir, Braintree Fishing Report

Need Summer!

While the fishing has been slow as usual now in early spring. I remember popping them almost everywhere I fished late last summer. Early last September, my dad and I decided to try Richardi reservoir in Braintree. The place has been replaced with a new reservoir but is still great to fish. Around late summer, a lot of the water has dried up at this reservoir, leaving a lot of the lake bed accessible to walk on. Although the more shallow areas become void of water by this point, the pond's deep pockets are still full of water. Having nowhere else to go, the fish are all focused in this area, as well, as you can probably imagine. We found a good pocket and spread out, throwing simple shiner-bobber rigs. A few casts in, I hooked the first fish of the day, a jumbo yellow perch. After that, we began hitting them left and right. The highlights of the day happened when I caught a nice largemouth bass that I estimated was about four pounds, and when my dad nailed an almost pike-sized pickerel. We probably caught a total of around 15 fish that day, including many different species. The reservoir has since filled up again from rain and snowmelt, but is still fishable. I assume it will dry up again during the summer like it has in the past.
